The government is studying the need to extend aid in the form of grants or loans to Penang for upgrades to main valves at the Sg Dua water treatment plant in Butterworth, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Penang Water Supply Corporation chief executive officer K. Pathmanantan said all the water works planned at Sg Dua WTP and 22 other locations were completed ahead of schedule and water supply restoration had started around 11pm last night.
Zairil Khir Johari said that about 590,000 consumers on the Penang island and mainland Seberang Prai would be affected by the development, as Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) has to shut down the Sg Dua WTP to replace two units of 1,200mm control valves that are leaking.
