The government has been advised to study the implementation of taxes, including the new rate of service tax, that might have a direct impact on Malaysians.
Sabah’s power utility has stressed that the imposition of sales and service tax (SST) for electricity bills is a statutory requirement dictated by the Finance Ministry.
The government will prioritise improving the current tax system before deciding whether to reintroduce new taxes such as the goods and services tax, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
As service tax is applicable to air tickets, I will discuss with the Finance Ministry about maintaining the rate at 6% for domestic travel,” he said after an event at the AirAsia headquarters here today.
