The Sultan of Selangor’s call for all parties to respect the Federal Court’s decision in the Nik Elin case will help to lower the political temperature, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Putrajaya’s special committee on states’ competency to legislate Islamic laws will study issues arising from the Federal Court’s recent decision to strike down 16 shariah criminal provisions in Kelantan, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj said today.
Police have identified the owners of three social media accounts believed to have threatened lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid after she challenged 18 provisions in Kelantan’s Shariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019.
The police said an investigation into threats made against Kelantan-born lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid has been completed and that a total of three reports have been made on the matter so far.
