Pembinaan Ricoler Sdn Bhd is facing legal action by the Home Ministry and the Human Resources Ministry for abandoning 93 of its Bangladeshi workers brought into the country in November 2023.
The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia is deeply concerned with the recent report of the detention of 171 Bangladesh workers who have been exploited and trafficked into Malaysia with the false promise of jobs, despite them having to pay huge recruitment fees.
Four Bangladeshi workers thought to have been buried under the rubble of a collapsed building under construction in Bayan Lepas, Penang, had instead fled the scene and are now in police custody.
The Human Resources Ministry will conduct nationwide operations following a letter by a migrant rights activist to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) regarding the plight of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.
