Former culture, arts and heritage minister Tan Sri Rais Yatim has chided the current post-holder Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, the chief secretary and the Public Service director-general over the sudden demotion of the former Tourism Malaysia chief.
Referencing Article 135(2) of the Federal Constitution, Isham said that it is not a minister’s prerogative to arbitrarily terminate or demote a public servant, especially when a right of response was allegedly not provided.
The suggested revival of the Civil Service Tribunal as a platform for civil servants to seek redress needs to be discussed with the Public Service Department director-general and the Chief Secretary to the Government first.
In a statement today, the board said it agreed that pressing change is needed for the country’s tourism sector, and it remained committed to doing its best for the nation’s interest.
