Homegrown footwear brand Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd has legal standing should they decide to pursue legal action against those who initiated the fiasco involving a graphic on the shoe sole, say lawyers.
The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) will meet with relevant authorities soon to coordinate their actions to address the issue of a Vern's shoe logo that allegedly resembles the word “Allah”.
MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng has questioned whether those who posted about local fashion company Vern’s shoe sole design will face legal action.
The logo on the soles of Vern's brand shoes, which allegedly resembles the word “Allah”, does not match the holy word in terms of the art of “khat” (a form of Malay-Arabic calligraphy), said Associate Professor Nor Azlin Hamidon.
Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd has recalled its shoes that garnered attention due to markings on the sole resembling the word “Allah” in Arabic script from over 70 outlets.
