KUALA LUMPUR – Stadium Corp Malaysia (PSM) Chairman, Datuk Hans Isaac, has stepped down from his role after a two-year tenure amid a tipped shake-up involving the governing body’s board members.
In a statement posted on his Instagram, Hans, who assumed the role in 2023, thanked Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh for the opportunity and further revealed that he would be making an announcement regarding his next venture in due course.
“After two years of holding the position of Chairman of PSM, I would like to thank Minister Hannah and her deputy, Adam Adli, for the opportunity given to me. I would also like to thank the members of PSM; the achievements have been the result of teamwork by all.
“Additionally, I am grateful to the entire workforce of PSM and the newly appointed PSM CEO, Illyas Jamil. It has been an honour and a privilege.
“With over 20 successful stories and results in the past two years under my tenure, I am proud to say that this board has put its best foot forward for PSM and all its achievements.
“That being said, it is time for me to take on another challenge, which I hope to announce in due course. Finally, I would like to wish only the best to the amazing PSM management and its next lineup of board members. I will never forget this incredible opportunity,” read the statement.
However, it is understood that the entire board of members of PSM will be stepping down this week.
Hans’ post on Instagram confirmed Scoop’s report last week, which also revealed that the current deputy chairman, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, is speculated to take over.
While Hans, who became the Chairman of PSM in June 2023, was dogged with many issues, primarily the condition of the National Stadium Bukit Jalil (SNBJ) field, he also received plaudits for PSM achieving its highest revenue of RM10.64 million last year.
Most were attributed to non-sporting events such as concerts, with Coldplay’s November 2023 gig alone generating RM51.9 million in ticket sales.
Under his chairmanship, PSM also succeeded in getting the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to allow the National Hockey Stadium to also be used as a concert venue, where international acts Maroon 5 and Green Day just performed days of each other last month.
His appointment to PSM in June 2023 was part of a larger effort by the Youth and Sports Ministry to incorporate experienced professionals from different fields into leadership roles within the organisation.
As the chairman of PSM, Hans was tasked with managing and developing national stadiums and sports facilities that fall under PSM’s jurisdiction, including the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Axiata Arena, National Aquatic Centre, National Hockey Stadium, and National Squash Centre.
Last year, he faced criticism for failing to resolve issues related to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium pitch. Despite calls for his resignation, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh defended his appointment, stating that it was based on a two-year contract approved by the board members.
Previously, he served as chairman of the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) from 2019 to 2020.
In 2022, he narrowly lost the race for the post of Ampang PKR chief to Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, also known as the rapper Altimet.
The 53-year-old started his acting career in 1995, appearing in numerous local films and television series before retiring from the entertainment industry in 2021. He became a member of PKR in 2020. — March 17, 2025
