KUALA LUMPUR – The Fire Cage Fighting Championship (Fire Cage FC) this Saturday (February 22) is more than just another mixed martial arts (MMA) event – it is the first step in an ambitious journey to transform Malaysia’s fight scene and provide a platform for underdog fighters to rise to prominence.

Founded by Kevin Eu, Cesar Silva and Ahmad Mustaqiim Ahmad Fauzi, Fire Cage aims to elevate MMA in the country, not just as a sport but as a movement that nurtures talent and tells compelling stories of perseverance and triumph.

Silva, an expert Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach with deep ties to combat sports, has long worked with fighters from underprivileged backgrounds. He believes that jiu-jitsu and MMA can change lives, just as they did for him.

“The Fire Cage FC in Nilai this Saturday is just the beginning,” said Kevin.

“We want to build a lasting legacy that empowers Malaysian fighters and showcases their struggles and successes.”

A key initiative in this vision is the establishment of the Fire Cage gym at Pertama Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

This facility will serve as the primary training ground and competition venue for the next generation of Malaysian fighters.

Spearheading the training will be former UFC champion Diego Nunes, who has been appointed as head coach.

Fire Cage also has bold plans to produce a reality show, much like Road to UFC, that will chronicle the journey of rising underdogs, offering them a chance to break into the international fight scene.

“We want to provide these fighters with a real opportunity to shine,” Kevin added.

“MMA isn’t just about fighting – it’s about resilience, determination, and heart. Some of the greatest fighters in history, including the likes of Conor McGregor (Ireland), came from nothing, and we want to highlight those stories.”

Fire Cage’s long-term goal is to become a major global MMA brand, standing alongside the likes of UFC, Bellator, and ONE Championship.

This weekend’s Fire Cage FC event at N9 Arena, Negeri Sembilan, promises high-intensity action with elite fighters from six countries, including Brazil, Japan, and the Philippines, battling it out alongside Malaysia’s top talents.

The main event features a welterweight clash between Brazilian veteran Gleison Tibau and Japan’s Kiichi Kunimoto, while Nunes will take on the Philippines’ Rolando Dy for the lightweight championship.

In the lead-up to fight night, the official face-off and weigh-in will be held at IOI Putrajaya on Thursday (February 20) and Friday (February 21), setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling showcase of combat sports.

With its clear vision and unwavering commitment, Fire Cage is set to revolutionise MMA in Malaysia – one underdog story at a time. – February 18, 2025
