KUALA LUMPUR — Lucrative bonuses await players and the coaching staff of Polis Diraja Malaysia FC (PDRM) if they beat Selangor FC in the two-legged MFL Challenge Cup final.

The management of PDRM made the announcement recently, stating that the rewards could range from RM2,000 to RM10,000.

Speaking to Scoop, PDRM head coach P. Maniam said that the club’s management’s decision to give bonuses will be a great motivation for them to go all out and clinch the title for their loyal PDRM supporters.

“The management has announced that they will be providing a bonus, and we are very grateful to them. However, we must ensure that we are not overconfident against Selangor, as I know what they are capable of, having previously coached the team in 2018. Their defence is reliable, and their front line is solid.

“Our performance in the Super League has been decent this season, especially after putting in good performances against the big guns in the country, such as JDT, Terengganu FC, Kedah FC, and even Selangor.

“We aim to use all the experience we have gained in these games and utilise it well in the first leg of the final tomorrow. Winning the final will be a great way to end our season on a high note with a trophy in our hands,” said Maniam when contacted.

Meanwhile, on their road to the final, the Cops scored 13 goals in four matches in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals (first and second legs) and will face off against the Red Giants tomorrow at the MBPJ Stadium, before meeting them again at the Selayang Municipal Stadium for the second leg a week later.

For the record, PDRM are the defending champions of the MFL Challenge Cup, having beaten Kuching City FC 4-1 in a two-legged final in the 2023/2024 season.

The MFL Challenge Cup serves as a secondary-tier cup competition, specifically designed to provide an additional platform for teams eliminated during the round-of-16 stage of the prestigious Malaysia Cup. — February 14, 2025
