KUALA TERENGGANU — A total of 400 police officers and personnel will be deployed to ensure security and manage traffic during the first semi-final match of the Malaysia Cup at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA), Gong Badak, tomorrow night.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the measures aim to facilitate a smooth match between Terengganu FC (TFC) and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), which is expected to draw tens of thousands of spectators.

To maintain safety, strict checks will be conducted at the stadium entrances to prevent prohibited items from being brought inside.

“As a precaution, body and bag checks will be carried out before and after entry into the stadium,” Azli said in a statement today.

“Spectators are strictly prohibited from bringing in dangerous or restricted items, including firecrackers, flares, helmets, water bottles, lighters, sharp objects like knives, iron rods, and sticks. Loudspeakers and noise-making devices are also banned.”

He further reminded attendees to avoid parking vehicles in ways that obstruct roads or pathways near the stadium’s main gate.

Azli also warned against any processions or gatherings before, during, or after the match to prevent incidents of provocation or fights.

“Police will take strict action against anyone attempting to create chaos. Let’s support our teams respectfully and with good sportsmanship,” he added.

Meanwhile, TFC announced on its official Facebook page that 4,000 tickets have already been sold, with physical ticket sales commencing at 10am today at SSMZA.

TFC CEO Mohd Sabri Abas assured fans that additional measures would be in place to prevent ticket fraud and illegal entry, which could lead to overcrowding.

“The management will station observers at every entrance to monitor for fake tickets and unauthorised access, which has previously prevented legitimate ticket holders from finding seats,” Mohd Sabri said.

He added that TFC would also host various activities during the match, including souvenir sales and exhibitions, to enhance the match-day experience. — January 16, 2025
