KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor deputy state secretary (management) Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi has been appointed chief executive officer of the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) Secretariat, effective yesterday.
The appointment was confirmed during a State Executive Council meeting led by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. according to his Facebook post.
According to State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, Yazid’s role will involve overseeing infrastructure and venue preparations while acting as a liaison for collaborations with local authorities and government agencies.
“Yazid was the deputy chief of Selangor’s contingent in Sukma 2024. His experience from the initial stages of Sukma Sarawak to its completion has given him a strong understanding of managing and preparing for such events,” he told Bernama.
Venu Ramadass has been appointed the secretariat’s chief operating officer, effective on the same date. Najwan highlighted Venu’s extensive experience in sports broadcasting, having previously served as Astro Arena’s channel manager.
“He has also worked as a broadcasting and production consultant, contributing to the organisation of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and was part of the organising committee for the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Selangor in 2022 and 2024,” Najwan explained.
The appointments, which were decided by the state government in November 2024, are expected to last until the conclusion of Sukma Selangor 2026.
“The selection and appointment of these experienced individuals reflect our commitment to ensuring the success of Sukma Selangor 2026,” Najwan added.
The secretariat is set to expand its team with additional officers in the coming weeks, with the first meeting scheduled soon. Discussions with other states to finalise the list of sports beyond the 28 core events are also underway.
Selangor was officially confirmed as the host of Sukma 2026 on July 18, 2024, following the state’s proposal to organise the biennial games. – January 9, 2025
