KUALA LUMPUR – The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is ready to assist Malaysia in arranging friendly matches while waiting for the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to finalise its tournament calendar.

Speaking to Scoop, PHF president Tariq Masoori Bugti said that his governing body will be sending an official letter to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) regarding plans to host a tour next month.

For now, the FIH has yet to confirm schedules for this year’s Nations League, Nations Cup and Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

“We have no idea when FIH will finalise its calendar, and we are currently unable to arrange friendly matches for the team. However, we are ready to step in and help other nations facing similar challenges.

“We are planning to host a tour in February, or more likely early March, and we will soon be sending an invitation letter to the MHC. We will also be reaching out to countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and India to take part in our tour.

“Sport is all about unity, and we are united in ensuring that not only our players but all players remain fit and ready when they take part in prestigious tournaments.

“Once the FIH finally releases its tournament calendar, all players will be able to give their 100% when representing their nations,” said Tariq when contacted.

For the record, Pakistan, currently ranked 15th in the FIH world rankings with 1,941.90 points, has a rich history of winning the World Cup four times (1971, 1978, 1982, and 1994).

Previously, Scoop reported that Speedy Tigers head coach Sarjit Singh plans to discuss quality friendlies and overseas tours with the MHC once the FIH finalises its tournament calendar. –  January 3, 2025
