IWF World Championship: Aniq takes podium twice with two silver medals

National weightlifter achieves total lift of 296kg, while North Korea’s Park Myong-jin dominates with three gold medals

KUALA LUMPUR – National weightlifting ace Aniq Kasdan delivered an impressive performance and proved his mettle earlier today by clutching two silver medals at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship in Manama, Bahrain. 

Competing in the men’s 61kg B category, the 22-year-old achieved a total lift of 296kg to secure his place on the podium twice. 

Aniq staged a remarkable comeback in the clean and jerk event, lifting a personal best of 166kg to clinch silver, despite finishing fourth in the snatch category. 

North Korea’s Park Myong-jin dominated the competition, sweeping all three gold medals with a commanding total lift of 305kg. 

This achievement further cements the Johor-born athlete’s status as one of Malaysia’s top weightlifters on the global stage. – December 8, 2024
