KUALA LUMPUR — Six months after the acid attack on Faisal Halim, the Selangor FC winger is still seeking justice, with the club’s lawyer, Nik Zarith Mustapha, urging swift action from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Nik Zarith’s statement follows recent reports that a special team at Bukit Aman has taken over the unresolved investigation.
It is understood that since May, police have detained three suspects and recorded statements from 23 individuals to assist with the case.
Speaking to Scoop, Nik Zarith expressed frustration over the lack of updates but maintained confidence in the authorities.
“My client wants justice for what happened to him. While we’ve been informed that Bukit Aman is handling the case, we haven’t received detailed updates.
“Faisal has been in regular contact with me, asking for progress, but the information provided so far has been limited,” he said.
Nik Zarith added that so far, the police have shared a photofit and CCTV footage of a suspect but have not provided further confirmation.
“We want to remain positive and allow the PDRM to do their job. We have 100% trust in their investigation and can assure that justice will be served for my client and the football club in the months to come,” said Nik Zarith when contacted.
He also dismissed social media claims alleging that Selangor FC were not pushing for the investigation and had instead resolved the matter privately by compensating Faisal.
“People on social media often spread nonsense, and none of those allegations are true. I know my client, Faisal, and the club very well, and they are not corrupt, as some may perceive.
“We have been working day and night over these past six months to get justice for Faisal, and we will not stop fighting until justice is served,” Nik Zarith added.
The incident occurred on May 5, when 26-year-old Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns after being doused with acid by an unidentified individual at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya.
He spent 10 days in the ICU recovering from the attack. — November 30, 2024
