KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, use Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) to manage their stress before and after participating in tournaments.

The world number six duo credited the Mobile Legends game as one of the driving forces behind their success in several tournaments this year, including finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics, finishing as runners-up at the Arctic Open, and winning the Hong Kong Open.

“We love playing Mobile Legends because it helps reduce our stress levels after sparring sessions and tournaments,” said Pearly during a press conference following a partnership ceremony between Affin Group and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) earlier today.

“We’ve also invited some of our friends, such as Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, to play with us. It’s fun when we play as a group.

“Sometimes, though, playing Mobile Legends can also be stressful, especially when we lose, but we cherish the good moments we share.

“That said, we don’t play the game all the time, as our main priority is ensuring good sleep and recovery. We only play during our free time.”

Meanwhile, Thinaah expressed her hope that she and Pearly can maintain their strong momentum this year by finishing on a high note at the World Tour Finals (WTF).

The prestigious BWF event, offering prize money of US$2.5 million (RM11.88 million), is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou next month and is open only to the top eight singles players and doubles pairs in the world.

“We’ve really grown a lot as a partnership and learned how to handle pressure. We’re open to discussing our on-court problems.

“Our communication is much better now, and it has helped us overcome challenges. We support each other a lot, especially when one of us isn’t performing well.

“The WTF is our last tournament of the year, and we want to remind each other to give our best and leave no regrets.

“This is the third time we’ve qualified, and it’s an honour to represent Malaysia as one of the world’s top eight players. As always, we just want to stay grounded and enjoy the experience,” said Thinaah.

Pearly and Thinaah previously failed to progress beyond the group stage at the WTF in their 2021 and 2022 appearances. — November 29, 2024
