KOTA KINABALU — Sabah FC are urgently seeking a temporary replacement for head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee, who has opted not to extend his contract with the team beyond its expiry on November 30.

Sabah FC general manager Mohd Joh Wid said that finding a successor is critical to maintaining the team’s performance in the remaining fixtures of the Super League and Malaysia Cup competitions.

“The Sabah FC management accepts Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s decision not to renew his contract with the club,” he said in a statement today.

Joh Wid revealed that both the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) and Sabah FC had initially agreed to extend Kim Swee’s contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season, citing his stellar achievements with the team.

“He has led Sabah FC to third place in the Super League standings and secured the team’s qualification for the AFC Cup last year,” Joh Wid noted.

Kim Swee confirmed yesterday that tomorrow’s Malaysia Cup Round of 16 clash against PT Athletic FC will mark his final match as Sabah FC’s head coach. — November 22, 2024
