KUALA LUMPUR — The popular e-sport Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) will be featured as a medal event at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, continuing its role from the previous edition in Cambodia.

As in past games, the team game is set to offer two gold medals in the men’s and women’s categories.

Ray Ng, head of the Esports Ecosystem at game developer Moonton Games, hailed the inclusion of MLBB for the fourth consecutive SEA Games as a significant step forward for esports.

He highlighted the growing global recognition of esports as a competitive sport.

“One of the key factors behind MLBB’s success has been our strategy to make the competitive esports ecosystem accessible and inclusive for aspiring athletes,” said Ray in a statement.

“International events like the SEA Games provide esports players, organisations, and federations with a globally recognised platform to bring glory to their nations.”

At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, the Malaysian MLBB team secured a men’s silver and a women’s bronze medal. — November 13, 2024
