KUALA LUMPUR – Novus Sports is looking to create a pathway to expose the youth and people with disabilities to darts while developing a competitive platform for them.

The sports event company will also introduce initiatives to develop darts from the grassroots level, aiming to put Malaysia on the map in the global darts scene – which currently enjoys a strong following in the country.

In a statement, Novus Sports founder Joshua Ambrose said his company recognises the untapped potential within the local darts community.

Ambrose added that, beyond being a sport, darts cultivates focus, strategic thinking, and inclusivity.

He is eager to harness these qualities by providing players with the tools and opportunities they need to excel.

“By developing talent, increasing the number of ranking tournaments, and maintaining a comprehensive record of Malaysian players, we aim to position Malaysia as a significant player in the global darts scene,” he said.

Meanwhile, MDA deputy president Akbar Shah Jalal expressed appreciation for the joint initiative with Novus Sports, noting the excellent opportunities it offers to anyone interested in the sport.

“The focus on youth and disabled players is particularly exciting. It’s great to see an initiative that not only aims to elevate the sport but also ensures that everyone, regardless of their background or level, has a chance to participate and thrive,” said Akbar.

To support this effort, Novus Sports plans to establish a training facility for players of all levels. The facility will be supported by a curriculum developed in collaboration with the MDA and further endorsed by international bodies.

Novus Sports will also host ranking tournaments and maintain performance records of dart players through the launch of the Novus Series, a year-round tournament.

Novus Sports has recently secured support from the Youth and Sports Ministry and is in discussions with reputable organisations to establish key partnerships. – November 6, 2024
