KAJANG — The Road to Gold (RTG) Programme Committee may consider adding professional men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani, to the programme at its next meeting, according to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

She explained that the pair’s recent outstanding performances in several tournaments have positioned them to meet the RTG programme’s main criterion—being ranked within the world’s top 10.

“Their performance has been improving, and I congratulate them. I hope they can maintain this consistency,” Hannah said.

“For the RTG, we support athletes who are ranked in the top 10 of their respective sports, helping them qualify for the Olympics.

“With Izzuddin and Sze Fei’s current form, I believe there is strong potential for their inclusion in the programme.”

Hannah shared this during a press conference for the Rakan Muda: Skills for Life AKBG Caddy Service Programme at the Kajang Prison Golf and Recreation Club.

Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin won their third title yesterday, clinching the men’s doubles crown at the Arctic Open after a hard-fought victory over world number two Danish pair Kim Astrup and Anders Skarup Rasmussen, 15-21, 21-15, 21-19.

On the Rakan Muda event, Hannah said it was a joint initiative between the Rakan Muda Development Division and the Prisons Department, aimed at providing skills training in caddy services to male inmates at Kajang Prison.

“With guidance from certified instructors at the Youth Golf Skills Academy (AKBG), participants will receive quality training suited to their backgrounds.

“This exposure will help improve individual competence and open opportunities for them to enter the local golf industry,” she said.

For the first phase, 20 male inmates will take part in the programme from today until Friday.

Upon completion, they can continue their training through a full-time, six-month Caddy Service Course Programme at AKBG. — October 14, 2024
