LANGKAWI – Muar MP and former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was injured after his bicycle reportedly collided with a fallen tree branch during the ongoing Ironman Malaysia Championship in Langkawi today.

The incident occurred while Syed Saddiq was cycling in rainy conditions.

Langkawi District Police Chief ACP Shariman Ashari confirmed the incident, adding that Syed Saddiq was continuing to cycle towards the final checkpoint for the next segment of the race, which is the running discipline.

Speaking to Bernama last Thursday, Syed Saddiq said this was his debut participation in the Ironman Malaysia and expressed his determination to achieve a personal best time.

The Ironman competition consists of three disciplines: a 3.8km swim, a 180km cycle, and a 42.2km run.

Syed Saddiq is expected to cross the finish line at 8:51pm after completing the running segment. — October 12, 2024
