KUALA LUMPUR — In an effort to discover untapped talent, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has pledged her support to MySkills Foundation by recommending the construction of an athletics track at their facility in Kalumpang, Selangor.

The foundation, which operates a 34-acre main campus, is a non-profit organisation offering Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) to underserved youths.

Speaking to Scoop after attending the foundation’s achievement day on Thursday, Hannah shared her immediate plans to support the development of an athletics track for MySkills.

“We often talk about reaching marginalised youths, those outside the system. This facility has gathered some of them, and they are deserving of support.

“From my part, I will bring in national coaches to tap into some of their talent.

“As I’ve said before, there is no such thing as a second-grade youth. It’s about unlocking their passion and giving them the skills to discover their gifts.

“I believe that some of these youths could excel in track and field, or even hockey. These are the two sports I’m focusing on, and I plan to bring in experts to teach them.

“I’ve also suggested that an athletics track would be a valuable addition to their facility. That’s the immediate project we’re working on,” she said.

At present, the foundation’s youths have access to a football field and an indoor hall for their sports activities. — September 21, 2024
