KUALA LUMPUR – National sprint king Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi has expressed his support for sprint queen Shereen Samson Vallabouy, urging her not to be disheartened after missing out on the wild-card spot for the Paris Olympics.

The 20-year-old praised Shereen as an exceptional athlete with promising prospects for future Olympic participation and encouraged her to continue excelling and bringing pride to the nation.

“She has consistently performed well, even breaking the national (400m) record. I hope missing out on the wild-card ticket won’t deter her. I truly believe Shereen will achieve even greater success in the future and become one of Malaysia’s best 400m runners.

“Everyone knows that her parents were national athletes, and I aspire to emulate the legacy of her Olympian family. I’m confident she will compete in the next Olympics,” he told reporters when met at the ongoing Asean University Games in Surabaya, Bernama reported.

Last Wednesday, Malaysian Athletics Federation president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim announced that the wild card for the Paris Olympics was awarded to Azeem, leading to Shereen’s omission from the highly coveted slot. – July 6, 2024
