Malaysian Olympics contingent returns to tiger stripe design

OCM president says change was made after receiving mixed responses on tiger design motif

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian contingent will once again use the tiger stripe design and motif for their official attire at the Paris Olympic Games.

This decision was announced by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, through an official statement released today.

The change was made after receiving mixed feedback regarding the tiger design motif, which was perceived as not prominent enough in previous designs of the official attire.

“The new selected pattern features a black background, with prominent yellow tiger stripes at the front and back of the jacket.

“The OCM logo, with the waving Malaysia flag stripes, is redrawn according to the colours of the Malaysian flag, accompanied by five Olympic rings, contrasting with the previous gold MOM logo design.

“OCM believes that this new pattern symbolises the tiger spirit, which has been the identity of the Malaysian contingent since its introduction at the Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games in Manila in 2005,” said Norza.

However, there are no significant changes to the design of the gold collared t-shirt, but it involves only a revision to the OCM logo design that incorporates the colours of the Malaysian flag as a mark of respect for the national flag.

With less than 24 days remaining until the Paris Olympics, OCM has obtained special permission from Yonex Sunrise Malaysia to print and issue these jackets using fabric from a different manufacturer due to time constraints.

“This is because the process for Yonex Sunrise Malaysia to print and prepare these official uniforms requires an agreement with the manufacturer as per their standard operating procedure for the brand,” he added. – July 2, 2024
