SURABAYA – National women’s swimmer Phee Jinq En has announced her hiatus from swimming today, after winning a gold and silver medal at the ongoing Asean University Games (AUG) 2024.

She intends to take a break when she returns to Malaysia after two difficult years of juggling her roles as a student and athlete.

“A gold and a silver at this AUG is a good achievement to me. I’ve done my best as I’ve gone through two events back to back. Now I can breathe again and relax after two years of studying and training. I’m not going to further my studies,” she told reporters at the Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia poolside here today, as she expressed satisfaction about her final appearance at the AUG.

Jing En’s gold came in the women’s 50m breaststroke on Wednesday, and her silver was from the women’s 200m breaststroke yesterday.

Even though she lost out on the gold, Jinq En managed to record her best time this season in the event with 2:33.89 seconds. – June 29, 2024
