KUALA LUMPUR – “Don’t compare me to KJ,” remarked Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh in response to netizens’ comments likening her leadership style to that of former minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Her statement comes in the wake of significant social media backlash over the newly unveiled official attire for Team Malaysia (Team MAS) for the Paris Olympics.

“I have seen comments from former minister Khairy Jamaluddin. During his tenure, that was his way. Every leader has a different leadership style.

“During my briefing, I was informed that during his time, that was his ‘style’,” said Hannah in a press conference at the National Women’s League in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khairy, who served as youth and sports minister from 2013 to 2018, recently spoke about his involvement in organising the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games on his podcast, Keluar Sekejap, which he hosts alongside former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan.

He had reflected on his decision to approve the design of the Malaysian contingent’s attire by local design company Abstrax.

“I’m feeling nostalgic today (wearing the jersey) because I remember approving this design by Abstrax for the 2017 KL SEA Games.

“I like this design. That’s all I want to say,” Khairy said on the podcast. – June 27, 2024
