KUALA LUMPUR – The organiser of the 2024 World Olympic Day celebration, MY Creative Moments, admitted to an awkward launch of the official attire for Malaysia’s contingent to the Paris Olympic Games.
MY Creative Moments managing director, Wong Kang Woon, issued an apology today to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), the Youth and Sports Ministry, and sports fans for any misgivings that arose after the launch.
“We acknowledge our shortcomings and take responsibility for any flaws in the management and organisation of the event as well as the comments from fans and netizens that affect the overall image of OCM.
“We wish OCM and the Malaysian contingent the best of luck,” Wong said.
Following the launch, sports fans on social media expressed displeasure with the design, describing it as “backward and uninspiring” compared to the official attire used in previous Olympics.
The use of static mannequins instead of real models or athletes to showcase the clothing, which includes collared shirts, t-shirts, and jackets, was particularly criticised and mocked online as “hilarious” and “spastic.”
The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11. – June 27, 2024
