KUALA LUMPUR – Is the sultan of Selangor’s fury only worth RM40,000?
Apparently, this is what the Malaysian Football League (MFL) deems to be “respect” for the sultan as it reduced the penalty from RM100,000 to RM60,000 – a discount of 40% which makes up to the aforementioned amount.
“This is in a show of respect for the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah,” said MFL in a statement today.
The statement, which was not signed, went on to say that the three-point deduction from Selangor FC in the 2024-2025 Super League season has been waived.
Additionally, they have also lifted the spectator ban for the Super League match between Selangor FC and Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium.
However, the football governing body said that the compensation for the losses incurred by host team JDT and MFL remains.
“MFL will collect and review the information and costs submitted by JDT and MFL secretariat before forwarding it to Selangor FC for further review and discussion,” read the statement.
“However, if Selangor FC commit a similar offence in the future, the case will be brought to the disciplinary committee – and stricter and harsher punishments may be imposed,” the statement added.
This decision follows the ongoing dispute after Selangor FC withdrew from the Charity Shield match against JDT due to safety concerns following an acid attack on their star player, Faisal Halim, and threats against their officials.
Yesterday, the sultan of Selangor expressed ire toward MFL for imposing unreasonable punishments on Selangor FC.
He also expressed disappointment towards Football Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin for not taking a serious stance on the issue involving the attack on Faisal Halim. – June 27, 2024
