KUALA LUMPUR – Fortune finally smiled upon Ahmad Afif Amran of Yamaha CKJ Racing as he emerged victorious in the third round of the Cub Prix Championship in the CP 150 category held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) today.
Originally, the Terengganu-born rider aimed solely to complete the race due to feeling under the weather on race day.
Despite this, Afif, the overall champion of the CP 150 category in the 2022 season, displayed remarkable determination and secured his first championship win of the current season.
Afif’s victory also dashed the hopes of his teammate and favoured rider, Akid Aziz, of achieving a hat-trick title after triumphing in the first round at the Jasin Bestari Melaka Circuit and subsequently at the Tangkak Circuit, Johor.
The second-place position was secured by Fareez Afeez Abd Rahman from Yamaha YY Pang, while third-place was claimed by Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin, riding for the Yamaha Maju Motor team.
“It wasn’t an easy start today because my health wasn’t at its best this morning. I had a severe headache, and I even slept for half an hour after the Super Pole session before the race.
“I only aimed to finish the race to at least collect some points, but thankfully, I managed to clinch the number one spot here, and my strategy paid off on the last lap.
“I also want to thank the hard work of my team, which constantly researched and fine-tuned my bike, which resulted in a good outcome today,” said Afif.
This victory also elevated Afif to second place overall in the CP 150 category standings with 51 points, just four points behind Akid, who leads the chart.
The fourth round of the Cub Prix Championship will continue at the Teluk Intan Mini Stadium, Perak, on June 29 and 30. – June 2, 2024
