Will Faisal Halim heal in time to play for Selangor FC this season?

KUALA LUMPUR – Will Faisal Halim make it in time to play for Selangor FC this season after a long and challenging recovery from severe burns caused by an acid attack?

It seems that Faisal’s chances of breaking into Selangor’s squad this season are slim despite being discharged on May 25 and entering the next phase of recovery.

The 26-year-old had been receiving treatment at Avisena Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam after being splashed with acid while he was with his family at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and required intensive care.

After undergoing multiple surgeries and a skin transplant procedure with skin imported from Belgium, Faisal was reported to be stable and was transferred to a general ward last week.

Selangor FC chief executive officer Johan Kamal Hamidon acknowledged that it is difficult for Faisal to begin intensive training as his wounds are not yet fully healed.

Johan also revealed that the club received offers from the National Sports Institute (NSI) for them to leverage its expertise to speed up Faisal’s recovery process.

“NSI has offered its services, and we are grateful for the assistance.

“Faisal is currently waiting for his wounds to heal, and we are not sure how soon he can start his sports rehabilitation.

“Since his wounds are yet to heal, we are worried that he will experience more pain when he begins intensive training, as sweat may aggravate his wounds.

“Doctors preferred Faisal to stay in the hospital, but he was discharged after the risk of infection lowered.

“However, he is still unable to walk properly and currently depends on a wheelchair.

“Maybe we can work together with NSI to provide the best care for Faisal. But for now, the club – together with the Selangor government and the Crown Prince of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah – have been taking full care of Faisal’s wellbeing,” Johan said at the MBPJ Stadium yesterday.

Faisal joined the Red Giants from Terengganu FC last year and scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for the side in all competitions last season.

Meanwhile, Johan also mentioned that the club is discussing improved safety measures for its players, including the possibility of hiring bodyguards.

This follows a recent burglary incident involving defender Khuzaimi Piee.

Khuzaimi’s house in Shah Alam was broken into on May 22 while he was out for training. The thieves stole four branded sling bags, a motorcycle, and his passport.

“We are yet to receive the full police investigation report on Khuzaimi’s case. But we will try to implement better safety measures for our players to protect their wellbeing.

“We understand that Khuzaimi is traumatised, but we at Selangor will ensure his safety and always be there for him.

“We have also informed the police to ensure his housing area is regularly patrolled.

“Additionally, we are discussing the possibility of hiring bodyguards for our players and will do our best with the resources we have for now,” Johan added.

Selangor currently rank fourth in the Super League table, with six points from three games – having played only two matches after withdrawing from the Charity Shield which granted Johor Darul Ta’zim FC a walkover win and three points. – May 27, 2024
