KUALA LUMPUR – Police have released a photofit of a suspect believed to be involved in the acid attack on Selangor FC player Faisal Halim today.

According to the photofit, the suspect is believed to be in his 30s, stands about 165cm tall, has a medium build, and a dark complexion.

“Members of the public who recognise or have information about individuals resembling the composite sketch are urged to contact inspector Jagachandran Murugesen, the investigation officer of the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution and Legal Department (D5), Criminal Investigation Department Bukit Aman.

“They can reach him at 012-684-8166 or 03-2266-6071, or visit any nearby police station to assist in identifying the suspect and aiding further investigations related to the acid attack case involving the victim, Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim,” said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, in a statement today.

On May 11, the second suspect in the acid attack on Faisal was released on police bail after the investigation process concluded.

However, the suspect may be called in at any time to assist with further inquiries if necessary.

Meanwhile, the first suspect, who was remanded, was released on May 7 as he was found to have no connection to the attack. However, he was rearrested due to a positive drug test.

Faisal, 26, was attacked on May 5 while strolling with his family at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

As a result of the attack, Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and had to be placed in the intensive care unit at a private hospital in Shah Alam.

However, after successfully undergoing several surgeries and a skin transplant known as a skin allograft, imported from Belgium, Faisal is reported to be stable and was transferred to a general ward a few days ago.

Earlier, Johor Darul Ta’zim forward Akhyar Rashid, who was loaned to Terengganu, was also attacked and robbed by unidentified individuals, while former national captain Safiq Rahim faced a similar situation when the windows of his car were smashed by unknown assailants in Johor Bahru. – May 19, 2024
