KUALA LUMPUR – Ong Xin Yee showcased her remarkable talent at the 2024 National Under-18 Championships, held at the Kedah BA Hall in Alor Setar, securing victories in both the singles and doubles events.
The 17-year-old prodigy from Kuala Lumpur demonstrated her top-seeded status by defeating national teammate Oo Shan Zi with an impressive score of 21-8, 21-11 in just 35 minutes.
Despite the loss, Shan Zi’s experience against her senior teammate promises valuable lessons, especially after her recent promotion to the national senior squad.
Partnering with Lim Zhi Shin, the pair rated 3rd/4th, Xin Yee clinched the women’s doubles crown, further solidifying her status as a rising star in Malaysian badminton.
“I’m thrilled to have clinched both titles. My aim for this year is to secure a medal at the upcoming Asian Juniors.
“I’m focused on enhancing my physical strength and the consistency of my shots,” Xin Yee told the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
