KUALA LUMPUR – Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC striker Syafiq Ahmad is thrilled to be back on the field with his teammates after his goal secured a vital win over PDRM in the opening match of the new Super League season last night.
On loan from Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Syafiq took just 33 seconds to score at Selayang Stadium yesterday, making him the season’s fastest scorer in the Super League after receiving a cross from Sony Norde.
Speaking to Scoop, Syafiq said this goal is just the beginning, especially after a quiet season last year with only seven appearances for JDT in the Super League without finding the net.
“During pre-season, we played many matches, which along with training sessions, prepared us well.
“Our daily training and playing together have strengthened team chemistry, not just with Sony Norde but with the entire team,” said Syafiq.
The 28-year-old striker now aims to catch the eye of national coach Kim Pan-gon, who is gearing up for tough matches against Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei next month as part of the World Cup 2026/Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
The last time Syafiq wore the national jersey was against Turkmenistan and Hong Kong in Tier 1 International Matches last March, becoming a regular choice for Pan-gon since the Korean took charge in 2022.
“Thanks to my teammates for the early goal, it’s a good start for me and the team. I hope to build on this momentum in the upcoming matches.
“Perhaps this goal will help me stand out more. I aim to perform well in every match and represent Harimau Malaya again.
“With crucial World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers ahead, every player, including myself, dreams of a spot in the Malaysian team,” he added. – May 12, 2024
