SHAH ALAM – Despite the recent acid attack, Selangor FC winger and national footballer Faisal Halim is in a cheerful mood while in recovery, said the club’s head of sports medicine, Dr Muhammad Hazwan Khair.

Speaking to reporters today, he said this is a good indication of his mental state while his healing process is moving to a new phase.

“Discussion about Faisal’s condition with the surgeon is conducted every day and from what we are told his mood is getting better.

“He looks cheerful and we are hoping this is a good benchmark of his psychological state and we also hope it is an indicator that his treatment is progressing.

“His recovery process has entered the reconstructive stage. During this phase, the protocol will be stricter than before.

“We will further limit contact with Faisal to reduce any possible complications.

“Also we will be giving fewer developments about his conditions as the series of planned surgeries go on as scheduled,” he told reporters, adding that the surgeons and Selangor FC are very satisfied with Faisal’s recovery.

The 26-year-old player is due to undergo skin allograft surgery to replace the damaged skin that came into contact with acid from the attack.

The skin allograft is due to arrive from Belgium this week.

“We expect the surgery to be done this week and the hospital is taking precautions to ensure Faisal is in good condition to receive the transplant.

“The surgeries that he will undergo were informed earlier so it is not ad hoc.

“Before surgery can be done, patient consent must be obtained. Before that, he has to know in detail what takes place during the procedure,” said Dr Hazwan.

He also said the Penangite is eating on his own without assistance.

“The soft diet he is on is for his ease and comfort. His high-protein diet is monitored by the hospital to assist in his recovery.

“Right now the focus is to avoid any infections and take care of his nutrition,” Dr Hazwan added. – May 9, 2024
