KUALA LUMPUR – The current turmoil in Malaysia’s football arena may lead to the postponement of the Charity Shield match between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor FC, originally scheduled for this Friday.

Selangor FC’s technical committee chairman, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, confirmed that they have submitted a request to the Malaysia Football League (MFL) to defer the match to a later date.

This follows the acid attack incident on Selangor FC striker Faisal Halim by unknown individuals last Sunday, causing several players and top officials of Selangor FC to be on high alert as they are reportedly potential targets.

Adding to the complexity, JDT unintentionally disclosed their travel and accommodation plans, intending to clarify the absence of ticket allocations for Selangor supporters for Friday’s match.

“I can confirm that Selangor FC has officially submitted a request, and if both the MFL and JDT agree, the Charity Shield match scheduled for this Friday could be rescheduled, not cancelled, based on safety considerations.

“I cannot disclose further details, we have officially informed the MFL, so let them investigate,” said Shahril.

Meanwhile, Johor police chief CP M. Kumar said said they will ensure the highest level of safety at the Charity Shield match between 2023 Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and runners-up Selangor FC at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Friday.

He said that 1,500 police personnel would be on duty to control security and urged the public to comply with all the instructions issued by police personnel and not to cause any provocation, Bernama reported. – May 7, 2024
