KUALA LUMPUR – A second suspect has been arrested in relation to the acid attack on Selangor FC footballer Faisal Halim, police say.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told Scoop a man in his late 30s was arrested in Bandar Baru Bangi late yesterday afternoon.

Police have obtained a five-day remand for the man from a court in Petaling Jaya today.

The first suspect was arrested in Pandan Indah, while police have taken statements from three people including the victim, Faisal.

On May 5, Faisal, commonly known as “Mickey,” had been enjoying a family outing at a leading shopping mall in Kota Damansara when acid was thrown on him.

This is the second assault involving a national footballer within a week. The first case saw Akhyar Rashid, a player from Terengganu FC, sustain head injuries during a robbery in Kuala Terengganu.

Akhyar, who was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, also had his wallet and cell phone stolen in the incident on May 2.

Faisal, meanwhile, has undergone one surgery and is in intensive care with fourth-degree burns that have affected his movements and speech. He will reportedly require two more surgeries. – May 7, 2024
