KOTA BHARU – Police will increase the security level in Kelantan throughout the Malaysian Football League (MFL) season, following the recent attacks on two national players.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the matter was being monitored and remained under police observation.
Zaki said police had their own strategy to ensure MFL matches in Kelantan went on smoothly and without any untoward incidents. The new football season kicks off this week.
“We will carry out surveillance and investigations to seek any information about attacks on footballers,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri event here today.
He added that police had their own standard operating procedures to safeguard players and ensure safety and security during every match.
Last Thursday, Terengganu FC’s Akhyar Rashid was assaulted during a robbery and suffered injuries to his head and legs, while the local football fraternity was shocked by news that Selangor FC forward and Malaysia international Faisal Halim suffered burns during an acid attack by assailants at a shopping mall in the Klang Valley. – May 6, 2024
