KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) returns to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this year with provisionally the highest full-season participation in its history.
The first round will flag off this Friday to Sunday at SIC with four rounds of pulsating racing action planned this year.
Interest in the local Touring Car racing series has jumped from last year when 54 cars from four categories vied for glory.
“With the newly introduced racing format, I am very thrilled that we have provisionally recorded the first and highest full-season participation of 65 cars this year.
“This number has shown increased interest and I believe that this will be another exciting 2024 season.
“As the organiser of one of the longest-running national championships since 2002, we are committed to continuously deliver high-quality and safe racing events. I look forward to welcoming everyone to Sepang,” said SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif.
The championship continues with four class battles: Touring Production (T Production) for turbo production cars with a maximum of 2000cc, Malaysia Touring Car (M Production) for 1600cc and below modified class, Stock Production 1 (SP1) for naturally aspirated cars of maximum 2000cc and Stock Production 2 (SP2) for cars below 1600cc.
This year, T Production shall run with SP1 and M Production with SP2.
Running alongside this weekend’s MCS season opener are the featured actions from three support events, the Asia Classic Car Challenge/Caterham, the prestigious Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series and TCR Asia.
Meanwhile, to attract the fans to the circuit, it is running several offers fans could not afford to miss like the grid walk and safety car rides. Fans also stand a chance to win prizes from a lucky draw.
Entry to the main grandstand is free with paddock entry tickets priced at RM100 available to get up close and personal with the participants.
Beyond this weekend, this national racing series returns with Round 2 on June 7 to 9, followed by Round 3 on August 9 to 11, with the season finale scheduled on September 6 to 8 September. – April 30, 2024
