KUALA LUMPUR – Former world number 1 badminton player Kento Momota has just dropped a bombshell – he is set to retire right after the Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China, on April 28th.
Momota, 29, stunned everyone with his announcement during a press briefing in Tokyo.
Renowned for his historic back-to-back World Championships wins in 2018 and 2019, Momota’s career took a tragic turn after a car accident following his victory at the Malaysia Masters in January 2020.
Since then, the once-dominant force in international badminton has struggled to reclaim his former glory.
Adding to his woes, he will miss out on competing at the Paris Olympic Games slated for next July. – April 18, 2024
