KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s doubles pairs Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun had contrasting fortunes in their respective second round matches in the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China.

Sze Fei and Izzuddin, who pulled off a major upset by sending reigning world champions Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae home yesterday, had lady luck on their side once again today.

The Malaysian pair saw their second round opponents, world number 11 He Jiting-Ren Xiangyu of China, retire from the match at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre yesterday.

The world number 19 Malaysians had won the first set 21-11 before the Chinese pair decided to withdraw.

Their task will now become more difficult as the pair will meet Olympic champions and world number 10 pair Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin from Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Their head-to-head record is 2-1 in favour of the Tokyo 2020 gold medallists.

Meanwhile, Wei Chong-Kai Wun went down to world number 14 pair Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-Hsuan in straight sets.

Malaysia’s world number 18 pair were sent home 21-18, 21-17 in 35 minutes. – April 11, 2024
