Rhodict’s Olympic training shifts to S’pore amid London setback

National diver to train in Singapore until May 31, following challenges in securing joint training opportunities with other countries

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Swimming (MS) has had to revise its plans to send national diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises to train in London after the original arrangement fell through.

MS diving technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas revealed that, despite their official request to British Swimming, the response was not encouraging.

The overseas training centre was crucial to preparing Rhodict for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games in July.

Hence, the current alternative is for Rhodict to train in Singapore until May 31.

“We submitted a request for Rhodict to train with their platform diving athletes, but unfortunately, the response was inconclusive.

“Given the proximity of the Olympic Games, it’s challenging to secure joint training opportunities with other countries.

“After careful deliberation, we opted for Singapore. While their diving standards may be lower, they offer world-class facilities, providing a fresh environment for Rhodict,” said Bryan to Scoop.

During these two months, Rhodict aims to elevate the degree of difficulty of his dives from 3.0 to 3.7, enhancing his performance at the Paris Olympic Games.

“As a former athlete, I believe two months are sufficient for Rhodict to enhance his degree of difficulty, pending his dedication and physical condition.

“After completing the training camp in Singapore, Rhodict will have the chance to test his abilities when MS registers him to compete in the Olympic trials and Open Nationals in Adelaide, South Australia, from June 3 to 9,” he added. – April 4, 2024
