KUALA LUMPUR – National squash player C. Ameeshenraj was motivated by the crowd to win the Liverpool Cricket Club Open early this morning.

The 20-year-old took only three games to defeat tournament seventh-seed Viktor Byrtus of the Czech Republic 11-6, 11-3, 11-5 in 32 minutes.

“It has been a tough year. I wasn’t getting the results I’ve been wanting these past few months. I’ve been working really hard with my coaches and I’m really glad just to get the win.

“The Liverpool crowd… I’m telling you, every time I felt a bit tired, the adrenaline just kept me going, and they’ve been nothing but an amazing crowd all week.

“Today was different. Obviously playing (Moustafa) Elsirty and Ben Smith, I haven’t beaten or even played them before.

“But with Viktor, it was a bit different because I have played and beaten him before, so it was almost an opportunity that I could not fumble, so there definitely were nerves,” Ameeshenraj told the PSA World Tour.

The Seremban-born player takes home a trophy and US$15,000 (RM70,837.50) in prize money for his win. – March 31, 2024
