Malaysia share second place with India, Oman in Hockey5s world ranking

Meanwhile, Netherlands top list with 1,750 points

KUALA LUMPUR – The first-ever Hockey five-a-side (5s) men’s world rankings released by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) yesterday sees Malaysia tied in second place with India and Oman. 

European champions the Netherlands, who won the inaugural Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman in January, top the rankings with 1,750 points. 

Malaysia, who finished fourth in the Asian Championships last August before blazing their way to a surprise silver in the World Cup, accumulated 1,400 points to share the second spot with Asian Championship winners India, who came in fifth in the World Cup, and Oman, who were third in the world meet.  

Poland and Egypt (1,350 points) are joint fifth in the world rankings; Trinidad & Tobago and Kenya (1,200 points) in joint seventh, while Pakistan (1,150 points) and Australia (1,100 points) complete the top 10. 

Meanwhile, the national women’s 5s team are ranked sixth in the world with 1,250 points after finishing sixth in the World Cup and they are followed closely by Ukraine, New Zealand and the United States in joint seventh with 1,200 points.  

World Cup winners the Netherlands (1,750 points), silver medallists India (1,550 points) and bronze medallists Poland (1,450 points) occupy the top three spots. – March 21, 2024
