KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) is surprised and disappointed by the actions of former president Datuk Razlan Razali, who made baseless accusations that tarnished the reputation of the governing body.

Its deputy president, Firdaus Arshad, did not expect Razlan to change his stance, considering his previous involvement in KLCA due to his significant reputation in the MotoGP arena and extensive network for fundraising for KLCA.

Razlan, who previously held the position of principal of the RNF Racing Team in the MotoGP World Championship, won the KLCA presidency uncontested during the annual general meeting (AGM) on February 25.

However, less than a month later, Razlan decided to resign on March 16, citing various issues within KLCA.

Among Razlan’s allegations against KLCA was the misuse of funds from the Federal Territories Sports Council (FTSC), which has been reported to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Additionally, Razlan also received complaints from some parents alleging favouritism and racism within the Kuala Lumpur cycling squad’s training sessions.

Firdaus, in a media briefing today, refuted all these allegations, explaining that they are ready for investigations as all financial transactions are recorded and reported to the FTSC, with no misappropriations.

“We have not made any mistakes. The funds allocated by the FTSC are for athletes who will be competing in the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma).

“At KLCA, we do not have a programme for athletes under 15 years old. Even for athletes not in the Sukma program, coach Datuk Ng Joo Ngan still provides a monthly allowance of around RM30 to motivate them to train harder.

“We have all the transactions recorded, and the FTSC is informed about this,” explained Firdaus.

As a result, a KLCA executive committee meeting will be held this Sunday to discuss Razlan’s resignation and the appointment of a new president.

“We have informed the sports commissioner about this issue and have been advised to follow all procedures.

“We will also discuss among the exco members at this Sunday’s meeting whether to take legal action or otherwise,” he added. – March 21, 2024
