Nurrul Izzah, Shah Firdaus, Ridwan hope to bounce back from today with tomorrow’s events

KUALA LUMPUR – National track cyclists Nurul Izzah Izzati Asri, Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom, and Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, all crashed out early from their respective events at the second leg of the UCI Nations Cup in Hong Kong today.

Nurul Izzah shined at the Asian Track Cycling Cycling Championships in New Delhi last month, bringing home two gold medals in the keirin and 500m time trial, one silver in the team sprint and one bronze in the individual sprint.

However, at the Hong Kong Velodrome today she did not make it out of the qualifying round of the women’s individual sprint after posting a time of 11.278 seconds, finishing 30th.

Only the top 28 from the qualifiers get to move on.

Nurul Izzah’s next assignment will be in the keirin event tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in the men’s keirin event, Shah Firdaus finished third in Heat 6 of the first round repechage, while Ridwan finished fifth in Heat 4.

Only the top two racers from each heat qualify for the quarter-finals.

Both cyclists will attempt to make up for today’s disappointing finish when they take part in the individual sprint event tomorrow. – March 16, 2024
