KUALA LUMPUR – Perlis United FC (PUFC) has been ordered by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to fulfil additional conditions so it can qualify to receive a conditional ‘extraordinary licence’ to fill the 14th slot of the 2024/2025 Super League season.

This comes after the MFL’s club licensing appeals committee rejected Kelantan FC’s application for a national licence to compete in the league for the upcoming season.

The league governing body also revealed that Imigresen FC, KL Rovers FC and Harini Selangor FT had applied to fill the 14th slot in the league.

“This decision was made after the MFL Board of Directors listened to PUFC’s application proposed by the First Instance Body (FIB), which made a careful review and evaluation of documents submitted by the M3 Amateur Football League club.

“PUFC submitted a stronger application with copies of sponsorship letters amounting to RM25 million from four potential sponsors.

“The club has also submitted a copy of a RM5 million cheque from one of its sponsors as evidence of the club’s financials.

“They have also submitted letters of support from the Perlis state government, which were signed by the Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and one from the Perlis Football Association,” said MFL chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam in a statement today.

However, the MFL Board of Directors decided that PUFC would only be given a conditional extraordinary licence by obeying a few requirements and criteria set by the FIB after promises and assurances given to the licensing body by club officials during their presentation.

“The MFL has informed the club of the conditions and is waiting for the sponsorship documentation and proof of funds.”

In another development, the FIB has given a final deadline to Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) and Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City) to settle outstanding salary payments to players and officials in stages.

KDA FC and KL City have been instructed to make the first payment amounting to 50% by March 15 and a full settlement on or before March 29.

Failure to make the payment on the stipulated timelines will result in both clubs receiving a transfer ban with a fine or face revocation of their national licence by the FIB. – March 7, 2024
