KUALA LUMPUR – National track cyclist Datuk Azizulhasni Awang expressed his aspiration for the establishment of basic velodromes nationwide, similar to the Brunswick Velodrome in East Victoria, Australia.

During Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s visit down under for the Asean-Australia Special Summit, Azizulhasni took her to the outdoor velodrome where he occasionally trains.

“This velodrome was built in 1956 and still stands to this day.

“It has become a multi-use facility for the public and the local community which provides many benefits.

“I also took the opportunity to mention to the minister my hope of having a basic velodrome like this in every state in Malaysia one day,” the Pocket Rocketman posted on his social media today.

Before that, Hannah visited the Darebin International Sports Centre in Melbourne, the main training facility of the Rio 2016 bronze medallist.

The sports centre was constructed in 2004 to be the training facility for track cyclists competing in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

During the visit, discussions were held regarding current issues and preparations for the coming Paris Olympics.

“I want to thank YB Hannah for her endless support to me in my preparation for the Paris Games and for finding the time to meet me even though she is busy attending the 2024 Asean-Australia Special Summit,” said the 36-year-old. – March 6, 2024
