PETALING JAYA – Olympic-bound sailor Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif will head to Spain and France during Ramadan to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I will head to Palma in Spain and Hyères in France in March. In France, there will be two regattas there. One for those who have qualified and also for those still trying to qualify for the Summer Games.

“This means that I will be training and competing with my competitors at the Olympics.

“This will give me an opportunity to gauge my level and improve myself,” Shazrin told reporters after meeting with Paris Olympics chef de mission Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin at a hotel here today.

The Asian Games gold medallist will be in Hyères on March 20 and Palma on March 23rd, which means she will spend Ramadan abroad.

“Training while fasting will be difficult as we are in the ocean under the hot sun, so it will be a struggle for me but when you go through the same thing every day, your body can adapt to it,” said the 26-year-old.

In Paris, Shazrin is hoping that she can get into the top 10.

“I will need a miracle to get top 10 at the Olympics because of the short time I have to prepare but I will go all out to get better results than I have achieved previously.

“I know my level and I believe in the programme that the National Sports Council has set up for me,” she added. – February 26, 2024
