KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia Swimming (MS) has appointed American coach, Megan Oesting as the first technical director for the national swimming camp, starting next month.

In a statement today, MS informed that Oesting was appointed due to her impressive resume spanning over two decades in the field of competitive swimming and coaching.

“Her tenure as the head coach of Bend Swim Club (2021-2023) saw the club achieve Silver Medal Club Excellence status for the first time in history, along with setting 50 team records and five Oregon Swimming Records.

“At SwimMAC Carolina (2020-2021), she fostered a swimmer-first culture, leading to significant records and achievements, including a national age group record.

“Her foundational work at Eastern Iowa Swim Federation (2016-2020) led to over 60 Iowa swimming records and a national age group record,” it said.

Meanwhile, MS also announced that Eric Anderson from Denmark will replace Chris Martin as the new national coach as the latter’s contract was not renewed last year.

Anderson, who is still serving as the national team coach for Denmark since 2021 will come on board by end of next month once he submits his resignation notice period with his country.

“His skills in motivation, technical coaching, season planning, and video analysis have been pivotal to his success, and his insights into high-performance swimming and coaching strategies may help MS elevate the standards of competitive swimming in Malaysia,” it said.

In the meantime, MS vice president, Marilyn Chua, who welcomed both Oesting and Anderson into the national team hoped they will set up a new era for the country’s swimming.

The Malaysian swimming scene had come under fire due to their less than impressive performances in the past including two previous SEA Games in Hanoi 2021 and Phnom Penh 2023. — January 26, 2024
