KUALA LUMPUR — Grab Malaysia recently treated six of its partners affectionately known as ‘Abang’ and ‘Akak’ Grab to an unforgettable trip to the ongoing 2023 Asian Cup football tournament in Qatar.
The group, comprising Ku Nurizzal Rafiq Ku Izham, Muhamad Hazwan Hameran, Mastura Ahmad, Mohd Affzan Abdul Aziz, Iswanayar Husin, and Muhammad Nur Yusof, had the exclusive opportunity to witness the intense 2023 Asian Cup clash between the Harimau Malaysia and South Korea in the middle eastern country on Thursday.
On Facebook, Grab Malaysia described the trip as a “Football match, with a priceless memory.”
“For the third match: Malaysia vs South Korea, we brought Abang and Akak Grab to support the Harimau Malaya squad in Qatar,” the company said in the caption of a posting, today.
“Our shouts were not in vain. Harimau Malaya performed with great enthusiasm.”
The initiative, launched earlier this month, was part of Grab Malaysia’s ‘Jom Support Harimau Malaya’ contest to sponsor six of its driver and delivery-partners to witness Harimau Malaya in action against Korea on January 25.
The six were chosen from almost 10,000 entries.
To enter, the participants had to answer quiz questions, and top entry winners were randomly selected for the prize.
The winners were also entitled to bring a partner on a four-day trip to Qatar, which included flight, accommodation, meals, and tickets to the match between the national squad and South Korea.
Additionally, Grab Malaysia offered customers exclusive food promo codes and daily lucky draws, featuring limited-edition Harimau Malaya Jerseys and footballs.
Also, earlier this month, Grab Malaysia announced its supporting role as the ‘Official e-Hailing and Food Delivery Partner’ for Harimau Malaya, propelling the national football team forward by leveraging the company’s capabilities in tech and innovation.
As part of the collaboration, Grab offered multifaceted support, which includes a cash contribution dedicated to advancing the national football team programmes, and a value-in-kind sponsorship that includes an array of products and services.
This sponsorship features complimentary airport rides, Grab rides, GrabFood, and GrabMart vouchers.
“As a homegrown brand, we are honoured to stand as the trusted partner for Harimau Malaya. We understand the unwavering passion that unites our nation when it comes to supporting our team, and we share that same unwavering commitment to their success,” Grab Malaysia Commercial and Deliveries director, JJ Tan, said in a statement at the time.
“We are excited to play a part in propelling the team onto the global stage, bringing the joy of their success closer to our millions of consumers and partners. Together, we are not just fueling Harimau Malaya’s journey, but also celebrating the unifying spirit of football with millions of Malaysians.”
In the thrilling match, Harimau Malaya, ranked 130th in the world, secured a sensational 3-3 draw against the two-time champions and the world’s 23rd-ranked team, South Korea, in the final Group E action.
Despite previous defeats to Jordan (0-4) and Bahrain (0-1), this remarkable performance brought pride and excitement to the fans, showcasing the spirit of Harimau Malaya in the prestigious tournament. — January 26, 2024
