Malaysia's independent mixed doubles pair secures victory over American opponents Vinson Chiu, Jennie Gai

KUALA LUMPUR – Independent mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Masters after defeating their American opponents today at the Istora Senayan Indoor Stadium in Jakarta.

The Malaysian pair defeated the world number 31 pair of Vinson Chiu-Jennie Gai 21-17, 21-11 in straight sets.

Peng Soon-Yee See will play either Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing or Mathias Thyrri-Amalie Magelund of Denmark in the second round.

Meanwhile, women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei succumbed to another disappointment today after she was defeated by world number eight Han Yue 21-9, 21-11 in straight sets.

At the same time, K. Letshanaa followed suit as she was knocked out by Indonesia’s world number 32, Putri Kusuma Wardani, 21-17, 21-12 in 40 minutes.

However, world number nine mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have received a walkover after Chinese Taipei duo Ye Hong-wei-Lee Chia-hsin withdrew from the tournament. – January 24, 2024
